The carburetor is probably filthy inside and needs to be cleaned. No time like the present to become mechanically inclined. You bought the tractor for reasons other than "pwetty wed twaktor" I would assume, and one of those reasons is that you wanted to tinker with it. Welp, learning how to rebuild a carb is Tinkering 101. :)

Electrical system's probably a wreck too. Tinkering 102 is diagnosing electrical problems. For now, quit killing batteries and disconnect the battery from the tractor when you get done tinkering for the day.
