Hugh, Leon, Everybody...all I can say is that this web site, and the Farmall forum in particular, has opened up a friendly, exciting, meaningful new world for me. I feel like I have friends around the country (and in Canada) who are quick to answer any question and are willing to share their knowledge about Farmall engines, electrical systems, transmissions, sheet metal and every other component you can find on a tractor. My wife gets a kick out of it when I start talking about Nebraska Cowman from Wellfleet or El Toro from Maryland or CNKS from Kansas or Hugh MacKay from Ontario (THINK that's right). Then there's the incomparable Bob M. from the Rochester area--very helpful to me on my SM brakes. And Janicholson (Minnesota, right?) who's also been helpful to so many. And there's BillyinStoughton, who I've met personally, who is a another great guy I admire a lot. One word about green. When I was a kid I used to nearly get into fist fights with my best friend, who was green. But I outgrew that. And now I just good-naturedly spar with my farmer friend Bobby, who farms with green, collects green, and who has given me a spot in his equipment shed and his shop for my Super M. In fact, it sits right next to his M--the only red he has. And there is no better man, no kinder man than Bobby. Just one more comment about green. The boys from Moline have done a lot of things right in the marketplace, when a lot of other companies have developed myopia and stopped listening to their customers and shot themselves in the foot. I used to work for Jacobsen Division of Textron at Jake's corporate headquarters in Racine, WI. We were the number two player in the golf and professional turf maintenance equipment market (Toro was number one; Ransomes was three.) John Deere entered the market and the other powers laughed. They're not laughing any more. Red, green. Hey, both go real well together, especially at Christmas, which will be here before we know it. THANKS to all you guys. David

Fabrication (Who Me? Make it myself?) - by Chris Pratt. First of all, what are the reasons for not fabricatin your own parts? Most judgements on what should be purchased rather than fabricated stem from: Originality - If the tractor restoration is to be 100% original, it is likely that you should spend the time and money to locate the component in the used or New-old-stock market. Since this can be extremely difficult, you may want to fabricate the item or purchase a modern replacement temporarily, but eventually, you s
