NC, I agree with Jim assuming, of course, your wired up for negative ground????? I always warn of things like that having been a used tractor dealer and saw soooooooo many jury rigged and swapped grounds REGARDLESS how the tractor came from the factory grrrrrrrrrrr if you happened to be at Positive ground (I doubt it) the coil leads simply get reversed while the external ballast resistor, as he points out, still wires in series after the switch and before the coils high input (NOT to distributor) terminal
