If it still has a generator, (rather than someone having put an alternator on it), you can switch it back to (+) ground.

You MUST polarize the generator AFTER swapping the battery leads, but BEFORE starting the engine for the first time with the battery leads swapped.

If battery ignition, verify that the (-) terminal an the coil will be fed from the ignition switch, and the (+) coil terminal will connect to the distributor (points/condensor) for (+) ground operation.

Myself, if it is starting well and charging, I would leave it "as-is", 'cause there's always a small chance the polarity of the generator won't switch, even after "polarizing", and, if this happens, all the smoke can be let out of the generator and regulator in a quick hurry, after the tractor is started up and later shut down.

GOOD LUCK, if you decide to try it. Probably well over 90% of the time, the polarity swap will work with no problems, AS LONG as the generator is polarized before being started again.
