hydraulic valves reseal

I plan on resealing the hydraulic valves on my 240U. The parts book shows "GASKETS" are used in several places and o-rings are used in just a few places. I don't have a problem replacing o-rings but can I make new gaskets out of bulk gasket material from NAPA? Someone has had the valves apart before and it looks like they resealed everything with silicone (it looks like hell!) I was wondering if the pressure would blow out the paper gasket material. Any thoughts on this?
