I don't know about the gas motor but I had the diesel and had the head off and when I put the new head gasket on I put it on backwards. It fit perfect all the bolt holes,water jacket but when started it up no oil on top. On the diesel there is one oil hole on one end of the gasket and if you have the gasket on backwards no oil on top. The gasket looks like you can put it on any direction but you have to look carefully at it.
