Tom, you or somebody else might want to set me straight, if I'm out in left field here, but the way I see it, the field resistor, comes into play when lights are off and on low charge, but in other situations, the field terminal of the generator is switched directly to ground in order to provide maximum generator output. So, I guess, I'm wondering how this resistor is going to fix your problem? You might want to invest in a $2 pair or 3 of Radio Shack resistors to experiment before tossing $20 for the one that actually fits on the back of the switch.
