Den T., --- 1 / Dec. / 2006 --- Motor "1-8-R" = Jan. 8, 1948 Chassis "1-8-48" = Jan. 8, 1948 The "1-8-R" is the most commonly used CAST DATE on IH motors and chassis, where as the year (48) is used from time to time - not often. On your tractor (Jan. 8, 1948), this is when it was poured at the foundry, you would have to wait 8 to 10 weeks before it was assembled, making your tractor coming off the assembling line around the 15th of March, 1948. Your father bought the "M" used, so the motor may have been a replace motor. Serial numbers do not match chassis Serial numbers from 1943 and later tractors will not match (motor and chassis). Milton
