At the Portland, Indiana Antiqe Tractor and Gas Engine show in August, there was a guy from northern Indiana who was exhibiting a Farmall H that had a Mitsubishi 4-cylinder turbo-charged diesel out of an early 80's Dodge pickup. The installation was immaculate, and after a couple of us said "PLEASE" he started it. It ran smoothly and quietly. A few subtle modifications had been made to the hood, mostly to incorporate a 4-gauge cluster instead of the usual 2. He said the engine put out about 90 hp. The tractor had some wider-than-typical rear tires and (I think) three wheelweights on each side. The owner said it would easily handle a 3-14 plow in 3rd gear.

The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
