Hi Steve. There are no such thing as stupid questions, honest. Its much stupider to have to fix something that broke because you didnt ask in the first place. I would suggest trying to order the owners manual for your grandfathers (now yours, Im guessing) tractor as a good starting point. There is a link here on this page, or you can check ebay, or even your local Tractor Supply Company or IH dealer. As far as checking the oil, like Bill said, there are two petcocks located on the oil pan below the engine. you should be able to open the top one and nothing comes out. Open the lower one slightly, and you should get oil. Im new to owning the antiques myself, but I have used them for years growing up, and everyone here is happy to help. ~Bug
