I just finished rebuilding a Cub transmission as part of my restoration process. Mine had a broken shifter fork. They are just made from stamped metal and seem quite fragile. If I remember correctly, there is only one ball that drops in and out of the detents for each side of the gear pattern, so it would seem that it may not be the ball unless there is crud in the detent in the reverse side. The forks are actually mounted on shafts on each side of the transmission. If you take off the top cover you should be able to see if the forks are OK. If it is a ball detent problem or a fork problem you will have to split the tractor as the shifter shafts come out of the front of the transmission. Roger
