Patrick: Two or three of the guys touched on your possible problem. As Jay suggested you may have some diesel in there. I drained my 140 about a month ago and found by jacking front end a foot off the floor more gear oil came. With the diesel in there and filling with hy tran, you probably have a very thin solution in there by now. Then if you over filled, it"s bound to leak even with decent seals.

I"ve seen these tractors leak back when new, even with gear oil if overfilled too much. Probably 2-3 qts too much. The fill to level plug is just below front tip of left fender, behind the brake pull rod. The holes you are pointing out are not overflow for transmission, just purely a drain for any oil that does leak past seals.

My advice, drain the transmission, jack front end of tractor, so it all comes out. Leave it jacked and draining 24 hours which you should have done in the first place. Use your diesel fuel for it"s intended purpose, and DON"T flush the damn transmission with anything, anytime, ever. I"ve drained a good many tractor transmissions that looked anywhere from cows milk to rust colored paint, never flushed one yet. Fill it with 90+ W gear oil and fill only to the fill to level plug, good chance it will stop leaking.

If you look at that fill to level plug, the gear oil doesn"t even come up to the axle shafts when tractor is parked, thus all the seals have to stop, is suspended oil from transmission action. Doesn"t take an aerospace seal for that.
