TKN: I expect your B is much the same as later models and has a detent ball type end on a small plunger to hold the engage lever engaged or disengaged. On the inner end of shaft from engage lever is a flat plate with two positions for ball end to seat in. One is engaged position and the other disengaged. Just behind the lever shaft is a plug, behind that plug is a spring, and the plunger with ball end. I had some trouble with one of those this fall. PTO hadn't been used in awhile and the spring and plunger were gummed up with sludge and rust.
