Get a 400 or 450 diesel with a fast hitch. They're not really "rare" but there's not a million of them around either, not like an H or an M. I'm sure someone could tell you the exact production #'s, but I'm guessing its less than 20,000 combined. The gas start diesels are a challenge to restore. Most engine parts are about impossible to find and I'm discovering that they made about 4 differnt kinds of fast hitches for the same tractor. IH came out with different options and updates for them over the years. 2-3000 should get you a good candidate, don't be afraid of one with the torque out either, thats basically just like rebuilding a clutch. Awesome looking tractors too, after they're all painted up, I think. Even Deere guys gotta love the Raymond Loewy styling!
