My tractor acts as though the choke is not quite effective enough even if the rpm's are just a wee bit higher. On the charging end, my tractor has an alternator and I use a push button to excit it. I have to be careful not to do that too quickly, or the load of alternator will kill the engine in the first 45 seconds. A person should be able to catch that on choke and keep it running, but no way with my 140. You just don't disturb anything for close to 45 seconds, just let it idle it's own slow way. Once I get through that first minute, I'm away, no more problem.
