Denny, On a non independent PTO whenever the PTO is engaged it turns with the transmission and rear end gears. When you push in the clutch the engine is disconnected from the gears and pto but the momentum of the rotating blades continues pushing the tractor by the pto driving the gears and rear end rather than the engine. This will continue pushing you into trouble in tight spots which is why you need a overrunning clutch on any non independent pto tractor with an implement that is used while the tractor is in motion. When you get a overrunning clutch, be sure it is for a Cub as the PTO on the Cub is smaller and turns the opposite direction from the standard pto. It also turns at engine speed rather than 540 but that is immaterial for the clutch, but needs to be considered for some applications. Harold H
