That can be a good number of thing. Valve guides/seals bad, rings, or it just plain and simple needs to be worked hard. Or it could also have stuck rings and that would also cause the problem. Theres a number of thing that could be done to figure it out but if its not yours you can't very well do them. If I where looking at it I would ask if I could put some tranny fluid in the cylinders, about a 1/4 cup in each and let it sit a day to 2 and see what happens. If its from stuck ring the tranny fluid will help that but if its just plain needing rings and or a valve job then it will do nothing for it.
