I know people " get away " with pulling unsafe loads all the time . I have many times also . If you want to do it right do more research especially on the GCWR ( gross combined weight rating ) of the pickup in question . Then you have to factor in the load that's PROBABLY going to go with you in the cab and box of the truck , you know a couple of adults and a toolbox along with a cooler of cold beverages will add maybe 400 to 500 lbs to the load . Every ounce of weight in the pickup and on the trailer has to be stopped sooner or later , hopefully sooner . You have to look forward to worst case scenarios not " can I get away with it " .
