Used an auto darking helmet for ten of the 14 years I worked in a weld shop. The flash I got on the early ones, which were slow, was far less flash then I got trying to flip down the helmet or lens on a manual helmet. As far as the lens themselves they are the same or better than a manual helmet. All of them built today are fast enough that you get no flash. You get more of a flash when you look up at the sun. Yes in the 14 years I burnt my eyes 2 times. Once was from the reflection off of aluminum pickup topper I was welding the came from my back side and reflected off the inside of my lens. The other was with a manual helmet doing a bunch of spot welding and not getting the helmut down quick enough. If I went back to welding 8 hours a days 5 days a week I would take a auto dark of any company before I would go back to a manual. Just my veiw Gary
