The reason the shifter rails come out of alignment is that when you went to shift , the end of the shifting rod slipped between the rails,before the rail reached it's full travel.The reason this happened is that the end of the shifting lever is wore , and needs to be built up to specs like farmer Bob said.As far as water in the transmission goes , a temp fix is : dump one gallon of antifreeze into the transmission untill you get around to changing the gear lube.We had a farmall "H" with the same problems.
