It takes weight to move weight. That is why good dozers are so heavy. Chains will help; but if you want them to bite, those drive wheels have to be heavy. To much overhang at the rear will make your snowplowing miserable if you angle the blade. You might consider getting a winter set of wheels, chains, and tires, but only if you have some way to handle them in the spring and fall. I use a wide-front row-crop 504 with chains, loaded tires, and 14 wheel weights mounted on the inside and outside of the wheels. It has a Great Bend loader with extra attachment points on the frame. I am in MA and I have never spun a tire on snow or ice in sixteen years. If you don't get it set up right, you or your kids will be tempted to ram the snow in high gear in order to get the job done. Eventually the resulting damage will cost you plenty.
