Using radiator covers?

I seem to posting on here rather a lot lately, my thanks to everyone for the good advice. I've started using a cover for the radiator on my Super C to try and help it warm up faster/better. I've yet to see the temperature gauge move and I'm unsure if it even works. What indicators might I get (presuming the gauge isn't working) that would let me know I'm getting it too warm and need to expose some of the radiator? Thanks again, tractorsam
