I don't understand your thinking on size of lift arms, strength is in the side not flat. All the commercially built ones I have looked at are not 1 inch thick stock!!! Person just need to shop around for right price on iron, even dicker on the price..you might be surpriced!! I do not know where everyone is buying their iron, but if they are charging you those prices they are hosing you and not even giving you a kiss. I guess I am spoiled since our local scrap yards re-cycle rather than just ship everything to China. I also check with machine shops looking in their throw away area. All the material does not have to be brand new. If you have a scrap yard close, look for materials you need, don't get in a hurry. I just picked up a piece of 6ft 3x3x1/2 month ago @ $0.15 a lb.and a match pair of cylinders for same price. Keith & Shawn PS. Hugh that hitch setup on the Allis C. is made out of heavier material than you think!!!
