Harlen: No question, and I guess that would be the best advice for all situations, hook positive to the positive lead to starter and negative to negative that has ground strap to the frame. My concern was being sure he was taking in the entire 12 volt system rather than one 6 volt battery. I guess if one hooked to a single 6 volt battery, and both 6 volt batteries had some charge, the worst you may do is put 18 volts to the starter. years ago we never hesitated to hook 12 volt up to jump the old 6 volt Farmalls. I know numerous guys that never hesitated to put 24 volts to those 6 cylinder diesels. I'm not sure folks should be trying that on the newer tractors with digital everything and sensors galore.
