NOS 39 IH Light Lens, straight not checkered?

There is a pair of 39 IH light lenses on EBay, that the fellow sez are the straight not checkered pattern? Is this another of those little things you forgot to tell me about? Why on earth did they even change the pattern? When did they change it? Also what was the original difference in the switch box between the H & M before they standardized them in late 40 or early 41? I may never get this darn tractor together?
