Well some of that is true in the post below BUT when takeing a D 361 head to a machine shop FIRST THEY HAD BETTER KNOW OF JUST HOW THE VALVES ARE TO SET IN THAT HEAD as grinding the valves deeper into there seats will turn a good tractor into a hard starter and low on power . Also torquen the head down in three steps then retorquen it HOT then again after fifty hours of run time IF the valves are aready setting deep in there seats now is the time to install new seats guides and spring keeper and retainers as this cheap insurance on not having a valve drop it's keeper and putting a valve thru a piston and scrappen out and engine.Run a bottoming tap into the head bolt holes and clean out any rust carbon then clean each hole with carb cleaner - either - laquar thinner any one of the three will work then blow out each hole with compressed air chase allthe threads on the head bolts and wire brush then when installing then use some white grease on the threads and under the bolt head between the head and the washer.
