I think you are mistaken on the W-4 gear train. Because the standard tread tractors have smaller tires, the engineers compensated by speeding up the gear sets. This is certainly true of the differential ring and pinion. Not certain if the tranny sets were changed. I would be more inclined to look at I-4 gears because "slow" is more important on construction sites than in the crop field.

Anyway, a good set of parts books is necessary to study the situation.
