That's the smell I couldn't quite pick out. I changed all the hoses last year except the bottom one. They pretty much crumbled in my hand. The bottom one is probably shot too.
I'll try to find pictures of the new plugs. I bought them from the guy that makes them. Not sure what all models they fit. Looks like just the guts were taken from an original and the hole retapped to accept the regular glow plug. I paid less for all three with glowplugs than one original. I'll try to find a picture. The wiring was just running a seperate heavy wire to each plug through a switch to the battery instead of the finer original wiring.
