Put the rubber on the light first. THen wrap a 1/16" thick cord or string around the groove in the gasket(2times around, but sticking out 10" or so). Put the light/gasket in the hole, with soap as before) and push so one edge near the string end is socketed on the metal correctly. Pull on the string from the back to cause the gasket lip to curl in while pushing in, and sideways to assist the rolling action. Presto. JimN
