John K., While the quality durability n dependability of an elec ignition box may vary (Ive heard good things about Pertronix), in theory at least they are far superior for their ability to initiate combustion. They can discharge much more energy across a wider spark plug gap for a wider hotter more surface area spark and thats what lites the fire. In addition the timing dont change as any point cam follower wears down and/or the gap changes thickness plus theres no problem with arcing n carbon n burned ignition points which reduces spark energy. Often once a solid state device burns in and settles down it can last a longgggggggggggg time trouble free.

You get the most bang for the buck when you match up an elec ignition with a high voltage high energy coil and run a wider plug gap. Be sure n match up the elec switch with your polarity and get a coil matched for the switch.
