I"ve worked on these tractors since 1970 and the differences between these two tractors is small. The differences in all the drive trains from the 706 thru 1486 and the smaller 88 series is mainly in bull gear and bull pinion width, axle size, and the 12" or 14" clutch. Improvements and updates over the years has been mainly in bearings,ball brgs. to roller brgs. shaft sizes and those type of changes.
