Steven: I remember a story in my home town, a family had a mentally chalanged adult son, he loved going to church. Normally he sat with his dad in a pew right behind Deacon Brown, and his mom was in the choir. This particular Sun., dad didn't go to church, thus Charley was all alone in the pew behind Deacon Brown. Midway through the service Charley broke wind. Imediately, he jumped to his feet and yelled, "Hurrah for the Deacon." Bear in mind, this happened before my time thus my only recollection was here say. How true the story is, I have no way of knowing. Could be that someone always fanticised this happening to Deacon Brown. I do know the Deacon was not particularly popular.
