5088 is a totally different beastie. Different engine, STS transmission with 18 forward speeds and synchromesh/powershift between the speed gears. HEAVY, and no clearance under the rear end. The 3088 is mostly 786 with new sheet metal. It's the final decendant of the 706. Overall a pretty good tractor in most people's books from what I've seen and heard over the years.
