I once thought I'd like to install a good 3 point hitch on my 560 that already had fast hitch. The fast hitch had become so loose it was little value as a drawbar. I could rebulid pins and holes, and 12 months later it was same thing all over. I set out to find a 706 type drawbar and hitch links, to use with fast hitch rockshaft and lift cylinder. A fabricator and I speced this all out, bear in mind these tractors were quite new then, not a lot of junkers around, thus we were going to fabricate the drawbar part and buy new lower links and top link from IH. Our estimates were close to $1,500. Now I'm not talking a mickey mouse affair. This drawbar was going to do trailing type pto machines and the 3 point was going to be good enough to plow with. I never did build the hitch.

At that time, a new 656 diesel could be bought for $4,200. I've seen countless number of folks do tricks like this, spend thousands on old junk that is never going to work. You take folks right today fixing up an 1950s tractors with an aftermarket 3 point hitch, by the time there all done they could have had a late 60s tractor with factory 3 point and the proper configuration that he doesn't have to crawl over that 3 point or fast hitch to get on and off the tractor.
