You would not use the old ballast resistor. One thing that may change your mind about this 1C14SB coil from NAPA is the cost. The price is almost $40.00. Hal PS: When a ballast resistor is defective the engine will usually start while cranking, then die when the cranking is stopped. Run a separate wire from the battery to the coil and see if the engine will start. I would clean those points as I outlined in a previous posting. Even new points need this. Good Luck.
