We had the picker on our 450D all the time, & the winter of 59- 60 was a real bear here. After lots of trouble with hard/no starting, we put a SuperC coil on it. The 6-volt coil with 12 volts provided nearly twice the spark to the plugs. With the engine running so little on gas, we never had any problems with the coil or points. She is still set up that way, & still starts well at any temperature.
