If it has the 9 speed you would be wise to make it operational again. It gives you 4 speeds between the regular 5 3/8 mph 4th gear and the 16 5/8 mph 5th or "road gear". Not having any gears with speeds between 4th and 5th was one of the more serious deficiencies of a Farmall M...most competitive models of tractors of this size had a gear or two faster than the M's 4th and slower than the M's 5th. These speeds were real nice for some light field jobs and road work. The "Super" series of the Farmall letter tractor models had better speeds for field and road work even though they(except for the Super MTA model)had only 5 speeds too. I know about this because I have many years of experience operating Farmall letter series and Super letter series tractors.
