When I split my A to put in a new freeze plug I supported the bell housing in a wood saddle and the front end & engine on a big jack with a wooden plank at the top like a shelf. I took the oil pan off and let the flat bottom where the oil pan bolts on slide on the wood. Watch the engine: it will want to fall to the left side of the tractor. You can keep it level with a long bar stuck through square hole in the cultivator bracket just behind the steering gear.
