Well i dont know about G.P,H But is she is puffing black at all your using more fuel then you need to. Turn the main metering valve in till she starts to starve at high idel *1700 rpm's* or more. turn the valve back out 1/2 to 3/4 turn this should give you you best fuel econmy. I like to run mine 1 1/4 turns back from it "starving" point,it bumps up the h.p. a bit but you pay the price when you fill up. I look at it this way i gain mabey 10% more horse but use 20% more fuel. but thaats the way i like it. I also turn the rpms up around 2100 rpms or so, so the extra fuel comes in handy when you boot it. I also run the M&W ADD POWER govener its a little bit more demanding then the i.h. govener especally when you run the motor at 115% of rated power. I plan on getting my tractor dyno tested soon. i'm guessin it puts out max 36 horse on the pto and mabey 29 on the bar. i don't know im just guessing. it has around 130 psi comp on each cylinder across the board. I never hold the tractor at more then 1800 rpms for more then 30 seconds even under load. it comes in handy when you come up to a big hill you can dump the gas to her to give her a head start. the amount of gas you used seems ok. i have a H with a belly mover on it and i can mow around 12-15 achers in 2nd on 3/4 of a tank. I dont like to stuff them full of gas as it just make the gas cap bleed more. even with a new cap. i will fill her all the up if im gonna be on the road. i put 40 or 50 miles on a half tank or so im just guessing as i would do field work plus ride on the road. when i need gas i just get gas out of my bulk tank and it dosent show gallons. kinda nice as you don't feel the sting of how much it is nowadays as the gas is pre paid. 300 gallons last me around 4-6 months but i have 4 gas burners tractors and a cub cadet and a grizzley. Plus who knows how much the kids take for there "toys"! oh well my dad always gave me a key to his gas barrle i guess its now my turn. one time dad cought me filling up my car using a funnle because ut is to fat to fit in and he ggave me a a$$ chewin for a week. but he let me use as much as i wanted for the tractors and 4 whellers. he would alway ask me "why do you need 3 engines running at the same time?????? that was when gas was .88 cents for fiels gasoline and .77 cents for amoco preimer diesel. i miss being a kid! now to fill all my tanks it can run $3000! 850 gallons of diesel 400 gallons of propaine and 350 gallons of 90 octaine unleaded. but if you want better fuel ecomny try running at 80% throttle that can save big. on my boat motor that is the end of the fuel saver range. I love the H and 4 series tractors. there really easy on gas. and seem to have enough power if you need her to fill in and pull wagons its alittle slower nut better then nothing! We used to bail with a H all the time. we used a over run coupler on the pto so we din;t get hurt. sorry long post.
