The best way of maintaining a TA is to make sure it is in proper adjustment and do not use it as a slowing down device. Do not let it free wheel much and keep good clean oil in the rear end. It is designed to get through tough spots in the field when the gear you are using is just to fast or bogging down a little. As in plowing or any ground engaging tool. It is not meant to haul a big load of hay over a hill. On the newer hydraulic TA's it doesnt matter as they will hold back going over hill.
