Re 584 rad, had the same problem on 454. Replaced water pump, thermostat, cleaned rad air passages, flushed rad about 3 times. Rad shop suggested a steam clean of rad and that fixed it.

The only exterior sign was that at high RPM the lower rad hose would appear to be suck in or collapsing even though there was a metal spring inside hose. We had replaced the hose as well.

I don't know of any of above applies to your 1086!
