That capscrew goes into the front seal assy which is pot metal and easy to strip the threads. It is a blind hole and probably a too long a bolt was used. Just tap a 3/8 fine thread tap then use a 3/8 capscrew dont over tighten mite want to use a sealant on the threads. You can also drop the pan and replace the bottom assy of the seal. I have some good ones if you need one.
