i did the math...... min wage v.s. gas was better then it is now....now you have to work longer to get the same amount. min wage is leta say 6 bucks even though its not that on a farm for a student. they get around 4.20 an hour and have to pay social serity at 7.65 percent. but gas at 2.99 gal you only get 2 gallons on min wage per hour now adays. so back then was better per hour per gallon. when i milked i got 4.10 an hour and i think he now pays 4.80 an hour. back when i worked gas was 1.10 a gal so i would get about 3.8 gallon per hour in wages...today you get less gallons per hour then you did when the gas was 16. or 18 cents per gallon , when you got 75 cents a hour for gas. thats 4 gallons per hour v.s. today it is less then 2 gallons a hour, it hit 3.39 here in south east mn.
