The gear ran against 4th 5th sliding gear when it is in neutral therefore giving you the correct ratios in 1st 2nd 3rd and reverse. when you engaged 4th or 5th it disengaged the FWD. The drive was out over the side and down thru a series of heavy chains. The drive housing bolted down where the belt pulley bolts down. It was fairly simple but did not have a real long life because of the chains involved.
