First, let me say thanks to all of you who have helped me in earlier posts. I am new to the IH world (Case transplant) and I hope I don't wear out my welcome but I do have another question. On my IH 424, I frequently and intermittently get a noise which I am having trouble pinpointing. This noise if I could describe it sounds like a high speed shutter - similar to sliding a metal table across a cement floor where the legs slightly shudder and vibrate. This noise can occur at idle when I move the steering wheel back and forth. Sometimes moving the wheel will cause the noise to start and sometimes it will cause it to stop. To me, it sounds like noise from either the hydraulic pump or the power steering pump (does the 424 have both?) I am presently not certain where either are (books are on the way). Sometimes the noise can come when you engage the PTO but not always and the PTO and hydraulics seem to work fine. THe noise generally goes away at higher RPM and sometimes sitting still if I reduce the throttle down to idle, it will all of the sudden start making the noise. I was hoping that someone could tell me something to try to see if I can pinpoint it or maybe some valve to shut or open to help isolate the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Chris Hibbert
