John-PaulT: Clutch chatter, whether it be car, truck or tractor, most commonly occurs during reverse gear engagement. It is a very common problem. The second most common gear for occurance is 1st (low) gear. The most common causes are: cheaply made aftermarket clutch assemblies, worn out pilot bushing, clutch pressure plate or disc got contaminated with grease or oil possibly during installation by someone with dirty hands - or because of a leaking seal somewhere, flywheel should have been resurfaced during clutch replacement - but was not, and excessively worn splines on input shaft or worn input shaft bearing in transmission. Also, a generally well worn transmission (with lots of slack in the power path) can contribute to the problem. If you go to your search engine and type in "clutch chatter reverse" you may learn more. Hope this helps. mike durhan
