The clutch fingers on a Cub are adjustable so to speak, and have to be set at a ceratin spec from the clutch disc.Assuming the linkages are set right and the fingers are too close to the disc, when you push in the clutch petal, it will make that noise.The throwout bearing is make of graphite on the early Cubs. When maintained, they can last forever.The later Cubs used a "regualr" type bearing. Evidentallly it works, since mine was put in around 1966 by the gentleman I bought it, who bought it new. He did replace the disc, but thats all.
