Our 1929 Regular had two levers behind the steering wheel. One was for the throttle. The other was the spark advance lever. Spark advance lever was raised up to retard spark timing while cranking and pushed down for full spark advance when the engine was running at speed. Later magnetos had a centrifugal advance mechanism built into them. When the magneto was replaced with the later type the spark lever was left disconnected and was not used. The centrifugal advance and the impulse coupler features were "modern improvements" way back then.
