The injection pump on those tractors are designed so that fuel is sent to only four cylinders until the load reaches 20 pecent. From twenty percent load to 80 percent load the fuel to the other four cylders increases until they have equal fuel delivery. From 80 percent to maximum fuel delivery all cylinders get equal amounts of fuel. These engines run on four cylinders under light load to keep enough load on them to keep them warm enough so they do not smoke. If you change them overe to run on all eight all the time, like the truck engines, you end up with an engine with lots of white smoke at idle and light loads. Trucks had the same problem when they sat at idle.
