As Jakee said, they were never round from new. Look at the skirts and see how much scuffing there is. More importantly, clean the ring grooves thorougly and inspect the ring lands to see that they are not worn. As the ring wears, it fits on less and less of the ring land of the piston, and begins to wear that surface. If it is worn much, installing a new set of rings will not work good, since the rings will only be supported at the very edge of the inside circumference of the ring, and will flex with each stroke, wearing them quickly. Check by placing the ring into the ring land where it belongs, without installing it on the piston (edge to edge) check to see the gap between the ring and the ring land. There should not be much gap. You can hold the piston up to the light and sight along the edge of the piston to see if the ring lands are tapered. I wish I could draw you a picture, since this explanation may not make much sense. If there is a lot of slop in the fit of the ring in the ring groove because the ring land is worn, the new pistons would be a good idea.
